Burgundy East - The Very Heart of France
Burgundy is considered to be France’s richest region
- for its wealth, culture, history and gastronomy.
In
the region of Burgundy Vosges Franche-Comte, cruising along
the River Saone will reward you with views of chateaux and
typical Burgundy farmhouses with their coloured tiled roofs.
Charming riverside villages typify the relaxed attitude to
life in this region.
The beautiful Canal de Bourgogne leads to the stunning city
of Dijon, through rolling hills and many famous wine producing
areas, with attractive canalside towns and villages.
Between
Dijon and Tournus on the west bank of the Saone lie the vineyards
of Burgundy, home to many of the world’s finest wines
such as Pommard and Nuit St Georges. Although the region is
a gastronomic paradise, there is no need to be an expert -
Burgundy has a dish or wine to suit every palate.
A
cruise from St-Jean-de-Losne towards the north takes you through
tranquil open countryside of Franche-Comte to the tree lined
slopes and flower adorned villages of the Vosges and Fontenoy-le-Chateau.
The
majestic Saone river will take you to the south; and a choice
of interesting places to visit including Chalons and Tournus.
Alternatively venture along the River Dole to Besancon arriving
via a tunnel under its fortress.
